Dryer Vent Kits

Are Dryer Vent Kits a good option to replace older dryer vents and is it the best way of venting a dryer? If venting your dryer to the outside of a house is too difficult or if it’s an impossibility at the moment, then indoor dryer vents are an option but should only be considered as a temporary fix.

Dryer Vent Kits

This article will explain more about dryer vent kits and why they work and why they might not. Thereafter you can choose whether you still want to purchase one of these kits.

So what comes in the the dryer vent kit?

The kit comes complete with all the parts necessary for installation. For a non DIY person this is really convenient since you just follow the instruction manual and install the duct yourself. However, this is not always the best answer since you can buy individual duct venting parts that allow for a far safer dryer venting set up. More about this later.

An indoor dryer vent is a dryer vent lint trap mechanism which traps the lint in a small box. Usually you will have to keep water in the box to help catch the lint as well as to keep the plastic box cool.

Pros of Using Dryer Vent Kits

For quick and easy installation a vent kit for dryers is the way to go. You won’t have to have someone install it for you and can quickly have it set up and running in no time at all.

For people who are changing an old air dryer vent for a new one but need a temporary fix, then the dryer vent kit is so cheap that it’s totally affordable.

If you have no option but to vent your dryer indoors then this type of indoor dryer vent is your only answer and at least prevents build up of lint in the room which can be both a cleaning problem as well as a health hazard.

The lint trap is quite effective but still needs to be cleaned to prevent build up of lint which can cause a possible fire hazard.

Cons of Using Dryer Vent Kits

As you might have noticed these types of kits are selling at a really low price online. This is because the parts that they use are not the best quality. The ducting hose is usually made of thick aluminum foil or white plastic which can be flimsy and easily tear. The clamps, dryer vent hood and lint trapping box are made of plastic.

The problem with the combination of plastic and foil is that it can be a fire hazard should your dryer get really hot and you are not at home to clean out the excess lint build up. In some States building codes require you to use metal ducting hose and it’s prohibited to use plastic or aluminum foil.

So check your local area jurisdictions first. This is why we mentioned earlier that buying the dryer duct parts separately is often the best option because it gives you peace of mind since you are doing it the safest way.

Also when you are venting a dryer inside, the lint still tends to escape into the air. This is a health hazard.

If your dryer is in a small room, the room can get really hot, stuffy and humid when drying clothes because of the warm air getting funneled through the drying vent hose and into the lint trapping box which has the water in it.

So now that you know the good and bad points of the dryer vent kits you can choose whether you want to purchase the parts separately or go along with the dryer vent kit. You should only consider this as a temporary fix because it really is not the safest way to go in the long run.
